AgainST Gender Violence IN Istanbul

Violence against women in Turkey is a social scourge. We interviewed an association that works to protect women despite all the difficulties, many of which have worsened with Turkey’s exit from the Istanbul Convention.

In particular, we were able to reconstruct the story of one of the victims. Hanna Butym, Ukrainian, denounced her ex-husband (Turkish) after he cut her face with a knife. The text could be an opportunity, starting from Hanna’s story, to make a point on how even the same feminist and women defence associations are being prosecuted in Turkey.
